John Lennon

It was 25 years ago tonight that that bastard murdered John Lennon in cold blood. It's hard to believe it's been 25 years. I'm older now than John was that night, for example. His son Julian is older than he was that night. And Sean is 30. He missed so much thanks to that jerk. I won't mention his name because he doesn't deserve to have his name mentioned in the same text as John Lennon's. For a guy who claimed to be killing a phoney, it was he himself who was the real phoney. John Lennon was about the least phoney person there was. What have we missed in all the years since? Who really knows. John was just getting back into the studio and being as creative as he ever was.

December 8, 1980 was a night I'll remember forever. It started out as any other school night as I worked on a programming project for our Numerical Methods Math class on a Data General Eclipse computer in the Math building on campus. After a long night, I headed home at which time, my 3 roommates sat me down to tell me the news. After confirming the news on TV and radio, I spent the night listening to one of the local radio stations - all of them were playing Beatles and John Lennon music. It was a hard time. I had just been getting into John's music in particular, but that night, I heard songs I had never heard of his before. I can remember hearing songs like Instant Karma and God that night. The realization that the Beatles would never get together slowly sunk in. The loss of such a great artist was even harder. The jackass who murdered him is one of the people, like Charlie Manson or Adolf Hitler who this world would have been better without.

What a waste, what a loss. Imagine.... Just Imagine.

We miss you John.

Thanks for the note. Interesting blog. I'll have to check back on it from time to time. You might enjoy a couple other blogs of mine, a space and science blog at http://apollogeek.blogspot.com and a photoblog at http://pixofmyuniverse.blogspot.com in particular.

BTW, what Park do you work at? I've always enjoyed visits to the National Parks and we've purchased annual NP passes for about the last 5 years in a row (and intermittently over the last 20 years...), almost always getting
much more than our monies worth out of them. If you go back through the archives of my photoblog to the beginning, you'll find images from our trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon back in July.

All the best.

Jim.
